Introduction
We, Doggy Day Camp, Inc., are as crazy about dogs as you are. We understand
your dog is a cherished member of the family, and as such, your dog deserves
the same level of care and comfort. When you leave your dog in our care,
we understand that you are leaving your child. We take this responsibility
very seriously.
Doggy Day Camp, Inc. is your dog's home away from home; a place where
dogs look forward to spending time and where they feel secure. Every effort
is made to make our canine guests feel as comfortable as possible, with
special attention to individual needs. Our goal is to create an exciting
and safe experience for your dog while you are away.
We entertain (and supervise) playgroups throughout the entire day. Playgroups
rotate between our indoor gym, securely fenced outdoor playground, and
den. We accept a limited number of dogs per day, which allows us to provide
the highest level of attention and quality care to our canine friends.
Imagine your dog being surrounded by friends, playing, romping and socializing
in a safe, supervised, and controlled environment. Our center has everything
your dog could ask for and more! A typical day consists of group and or
individual play, personal attention, games, toys, snacks, naps, recess
outdoors, general obedience, and praise. There's an abundance of hugs
and belly rubs given, too!
We focus on constructive, rather than destructive, dog behavior, and
we emphasize positive reinforcement. We exercise basic obedience commands
throughout the day because we know a well-mannered dog makes a pleasant,
well-rounded companion for our human clients.
Our staff is dedicated to ensuring that your pet is well cared for at
all times. However, keep in mind the dogs are engaged in play with other
dogs during portions of their stay, and although it is supervised interaction,
your dog may acquire an occasional nip or scratch.
We encourage anyone considering day care for their doggy to stop-in and
tour our facility. You'll be surprised at the amenities we offer our
canine friends! Spoiled dogs love it at Doggy Day Camp, Inc.
Doggy Day Camp, Inc. is truly a sigh of relief for doggy parents and
a wish-come-true for their dogs! By socializing your dog with an array
of different people and dogs and habituating them to the noises, sights,
and tactile experiences in the world around them at Doggy Day Camp, Inc.,
they will be prepared to successfully meet any challenge.
Frequently
Asked Questions (click on question to toggle answer)
| |
Simply put, Doggy
Day Camp Inc. provides a facility where dogs gather and play together
while being supervised by experienced dog handlers. Dog day care
differs from pet sitting or day boarding in that the dogs are allowed
to play with other compatible dogs off leash while getting exercise
and socialization in a neutral location. Dog day care gives your
dog a safe and constructive environment in which to dream up things
to do. At Doggy Day Camp, Inc. there are toys for everyone, doggy
equipment, and a wide variety of playmates to keep your dog entertained
all day long. |
| |
The purpose of
dog day care is to provide stimulation, exercise, socialization,
confidence building, and in some cases, training, to a dog who might
otherwise be left home alone. Many dogs are left home alone for
extended periods of time throughout the day, and busy owners often
are unable to provide the amount of exercise and interaction their
dog needs. If your dog can burn off energy playing with his pals
all day, he is less likely to develop inappropriate behaviors. Without
adequate interaction and exercise, dogs sometimes develop destructive
behavior problems such as chewing, digging, incessant barking, or
regression in their housetraining skills. Without the opportunity
to interact regularly with others of "their own kind," dogs often
are socially inept, fearful, and/or aggressive. Dog day care provides
the exercise, socialization, and mental stimulation a dog needs
in a fun, safe, and supervised environment. Your dog will return
home tired & happy, and you will be at peace knowing your best
friend was well taken care of while you were otherwise occupied.
No more guilt, no more furniture or yard repair, and you will feel
great about doing something constructive and fun for your four-legged
family member. |
| |
While at Doggy Day Camp, Inc., your
dog will spend the day playing, both indoors and outdoors, with
other dogs while being supervised by professional dog day care
handlers. The typical day care day at Doggy Day Camp is very casual,
and the dogs are allowed to play as much or as little with the
other dogs as they wish. There are a wide variety of toys to play
with and equipment to play on and around. Hugs and belly rubs
go with the territory! Good canine manners are enforced at all
times too.
We are closed from Noon to 2 p.m. for
nap time. After a long morning of play, the dogs actually welcome
a snack break and a quick snooze. Dogs nap quietly in their individual
cubicles in the Den, equipped with blankets, snacks and soothing
music. After lunch, the dogs are again free to play as they wish,
or cat nap as they please. Our balance of play and rest agrees
with our canine clients, and contributes to the safe environment
that we strive to provide and maintain for all dogs who socialize
at Doggy Day Camp.
We also love to have parties and special
occasion days, and if your four-legged family member would like
to bring treats for his play group, or have us help celebrate
a special event such as a birthday or adoption day, we would be
more than happy to try to help accommodate those special days.
We have party hats, various decorations, and work closely with
various pet bakeries to arrange a cake or specialty treats as
desired. So if your dog is a party animal, let's get the event
on our schedule!

Eligibility Requirements for day care
dogs:
- People-friendly (non-aggressive toward
human beings)
- Dog-friendly (non-aggressive toward
other dogs)
- Share nicely (not protective of food,
toys, property and space)
- Overall good health
- At least 16 weeks of age
- Spayed or neutered (for dogs 6 months
of age or older)
- Current on vaccines: Rabies, DHLPP,
and Bordetella (kennel cough)
- Receiving heartworm preventative
- Receiving flea preventative
- Trim toenails
Please keep in mind that the doggy day
care environment is quite simply not for all dogs. Just like people,
dogs all have distinct personalities, and some personalities and
temperaments are better suited than others to the "pack" life
in day care. Staff at Doggy Day Camp will ask that you schedule
an informal "meet & greet" interview to evaluate whether day
care would be a positive and fun experience for your dog.
|
| |
Yes, of course.
We always want our playgroups adequately staffed and supervised
to maintain the safe record we strive to provide. Plus, many of
our day care doggies love to cuddle when they get tired, and we
want to ensure there are plenty of dog huggers to go around! Doggy
Day Camp, Inc. is a wish come true for dogs! |
| |
In order to determine
whether or not this program is right for your dog, we provide an
initial "meet & greet" interview prior to your dog being scheduled
for day care. This requires an appointment during which we can spend
60 minutes with you and your dog. This interview will give us a
chance to meet you, and get a feel for your dog's unique personality
and individual needs, which will help determine if doggy day care
would be beneficial to your dog. During the interview, we will spend
some time talking with you and interacting with your dog. |
| |
Plan to leave
your dog in the care of Doggy Day Camp, Inc. to begin the transition
process. We ask that you bring your dog as early as possible on
the first several visits so that he/she is one of the first ones
to arrive and can begin to become familiar with our surroundings,
routine, and schedule. This makes the process much easier and less
intimidating for the new day care dog. We also have a specific introduction
area to help ease their introduction to the "pack," and will gradually
increase their exposure to the group at a rate determined by the
dog's individual temperament and comfort with the situation. This
process can take several hours for some dogs, and it may take a
few visits before your dog jumps right in. This process may seem
overly involved, but safety is our number one concern, and proper,
positive introductions will set the tone for a pleasant experience
at Doggy Day Camp, Inc. Only when we and the dog are comfortable
will group play begin. |
| |
Dogs generally
will drink a lot, eat, and then sleep through the night and into
the next day. If your dog is not accustomed to much activity or
exercise during the daytime hours, he may be quite tired and/or
cranky for a day or two after his first few visits to Doggy Day
Camp, Inc. His muscles and/or joints may be a little sore, just
like a person who overdoes a workout after a long period of inactivity.
In addition, watch for soreness on his toe pads; dogs who are used
to only smooth or carpeted flooring may need to develop a "toughening"
of the toe pads when new to playing on the cement flooring and gravel
outdoor areas. |
| |
If we decide that
your dog is not right for this program, or if we must withdraw your
dog due to behavior or safety concerns, it IS NOT a negative comment
on your dog, and does NOT mean your dog is "bad." It simply means
that the day care environment is not the best environment for your
dog, and other options should be explored. For dogs who do not do
well in a "pack" style environment, you might consider a pet sitter
or dog walker who will come to your home during the day to provide
beneficial physical and mental stimulation through one-to-one contact
with your dog. |
| |
While Doggy Day
Camp staff monitors the playgroups at all times for safe play, dog
day care is like a child's playground, and by allowing dogs to play
together there is a risk of injury. Just like at a human day care,
dog play can sometimes get pretty rowdy. We interrupt if we believe
the play style is becoming disorderly. If a dog becomes over-stimulated
or begins playing too rough, he may be given a "time-out" to calm
down before being allowed to resume playing. As with children, dogs
may occasionally get scratches, nicks, or scrapes from playing with
others. Some dogs have sensitive skin, and every little scratch
and bump will show up. Naturally, if there is ever a more serious
injury, we will immediately call you and will not hesitate to take
your pet to the veterinarian if needed. |
| |
Dogs who lead social lives are exposed
to various viruses, bacteria, and parasites more frequently than
their counterparts who lounge at home in solitude. This includes
going to the dog parks, dog day care, boarding facilities, grooming
salons, veterinarian offices, puppy socials, training classes
— even the aisles at the local pet store! Just because Snoopy
lounges at home does not mean he is safe from all illness —
only that he has a lower probability of exposure.
Doggy Day Camp, Inc. takes every precaution
to provide a safe and healthy environment for dogs in our care.
We require proper immunizations, refuse to admit an obviously
sick pet, follow responsible cleaning and sanitation practices,
provide proper ventilation, listen and watch for any signs of
sickness, and ensure that any dog requiring veterinary attention
receives it as quickly as possible. However, no amount of supervision,
sanitation, or personalized care is guaranteed to be 100% effective
against illness. Just like with people, illnesses can and do spread
among our canine friends. Some viruses like Canine Papilloma Virus
("puppy warts") are contagious weeks before any visible signs
appear, making it impossible to prevent outbreaks. Tracheobronchitis,
often improperly referred to as "kennel cough," can be present
anywhere, and can travel for considerable distances through the
air, affecting any dog, even one that never leaves its own back
yard!
In any case, if you are ever worried
about your dog's health for any reason, please consult with your
veterinarian, AND, alert the staff at Doggy Day Camp, Inc. Please
leave sick dogs at home (i.e., coughing, diarrhea, open sores/lesions,
vomiting, listlessness, unusual discharge from the eyes/nose,
etc.) This will help us keep all of our clients as healthy as
possible.

The more opportunities
doggies have to socialize and interact with others of “their own
kind,” the more congenial they are in a doggy playgroup setting.
(It is important to note that dogs can be socially inept, fearful,
and/or aggressive when they do not have opportunities to interact
regularly with others of "their own kind.") Our stable playgroups
contribute to the safe environment that we strive to provide and
maintain for all doggies socializing at Doggy Day Camp. |
